Hi
I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this...I didn't get my period from November until last week...I have PCOS and was ready to go to my doctor when it appeared last thursday. I was a as regular as clockwork before and only usually lasted around 4 days with a bit of cramping on the first day. I'm now onto day 8 and it's really heavy and painful.
I'm going to the doctor next week but just wondered if this was normal?
Thanks ! X

Morning rom - I don't have PCOS, so am not sure of the facts on this one (I'm sure someone will be along in a bit to give you the correct answer). What I would ask though is, did you lose a lot of weight prior to November last year?

Hello :)
Thank you :)
Yes, I lost 3 stone, well I started a diet in august 2012 and by November 2013 I was 3 stone lighter. I also moved house and changed jobs, was pretty stressed! X
Hiya :-)
Ah, well I'm no doctor but it does sound like Amenorrhea (lack of periods) which can be caused by excessive stress and weight loss.
I have had this myself too and when my periods returned, they were exactly as you describe - heavy, painful, went on for just over a week.
(I don't think it is specifically linked to PCOS, - but I am no expert - there is an AB'er called 'Squad' who hopefully will pop on this post later - he is very knowledgeable on medical issues)
Good that you have already booked the doctors appointment - keep the appointment and go to put your mind at ease - they might be able to suggest ways of easing the pain. Hopefully your periods should start to fall back into a more natural pattern and become less heavy - as long as you don't lose more weight rapidly or become extremely stressed out for a while :-)
Keep checking back in to your post later as I'm sure more advice will follow. All the best xx
Just stating the obvious..........could you have been pregnant?
I realise that that would be unlikely, but just needed to get it out of the way ;-)

I am not sure that you case history is "normal" but i would say not unusual.

There are many causes of your problem. one thinks of fibroids or endometriosis, but only a scan could bring a reasonable differential diagnosis to the surface.

Not much help......sorry.
