If you were smoking cigarettes you wouldn't be getting doses of nicotine throughout the night. Perhaps that's disturbing your sleep.

Friends swear by electronic cigarettes. Maybe they'd be a better option for you.

sandy,,,,well done for persevering, I have friends who used the 24 hour patches and had very vivid dreams , some pleasant, some not, would you try the patches only when awake ? good luck. a) how is the dog. ?,,,,,,b) how is your relative ?

Annieasquith, the dog is well. I think it was those hot days and there's neither of us getting any younger. The relative is slowly getting worse. The latest idea is that I've given a woman we both know a key and she comes into the house when we're out and steals things. I now tell her to lock her bedroom door before we go out but that doesn't stop her going on about things that have already been 'stolen'.

If they were sweet dreams I'd be buying cheese by the truckle. Last night was filled with broken sleep and nightmares.

Her daughters have effectively dumped her on me. As I'm mug enough to put up with it I can't see any prospect of change.

I realise you have had your relative ' dumped' on you. but as her condition worsens would you consider applying for some assistance in caring for your relative, I would suggest social services ( elderly care department ) but, I fully understand if my questions are too personal, and no reply from you would not be an issue.

Sandy - hope you don't think I am butting in here - please seek help for your relative as there is much out there to ease your burden now.

Since you are going through stress with the relative at the moment could you perhaps try and get off the cigarettes another time. JjCon
