Itchy/painful patch on scalp

I have an isolated patch of dry itchy, sometimes painful and sometimes weepy skin on the back of my scalp, just above my neck. I've had it for a couple of months now and it just won't shift - I started using tresemme about 6 months ago - so don't think it's that - have tried changing shampoo but that hasn't worked - also tried tea tree oil which didn't help. My friend seems to think it may be stress related as I am getting married in a month! Any advice - I am always going to the doctor so am trying to avoid it this time!

I also started using Tresemme shampoo a while ago, and my hairdresser said that it isn't that good for my hair as I have psoriasis. Your patch sounds like it could be stress related, as when I am stressed I get extra patches of psoriasis that appear and look like that. If you can change your shampoo to a mild one and try to keep that area dry, ie if you have long hair leave it down more often than tying it back. If it doesn't change I would go to the doctors - you're not bothering them, it's their job.

I get dry itchy skin on my scalp and have done for years, my doctor diagnosed it as cradle cap (what babies get - looks like I�ve never grown up!) and prescribed Nizoral. Luckily now it�s a non prescription shampoo and you can get it in most supermarkets, chemists and boots stores. It always does the trick for me! If this doesn�t work you could try t-gel. This didn�t work for me but different people = different solutions�

Sounds like it could be ringworm- my sister gets this in the same spot. Either way, it needs a special cream like betnovate, like you would to treat eczema. I would go to the docs. This sort of thing doesn't get better on it's own, and if you are getting married you want to feel perfect, don't you?!

Thanks guys! I figured it probably would end up with a trip to the docs but it's always worth an ask isn't it?! Bless my doc, she's lovely and always very helpful but I think she's going to think I am stalking her soon!

T-gel is another good shampoo for inflamed scalp or coaltar shampoo, stinks but is excellent.

Daktacort (needs a prescription) is good for ringworm, if a little oily.  It sounds very much like it, and is easily treated.  You have my sympathy though - it itches like b*******!

See your Gp...sounds like it could be psoriasis...or nervous eczema...both brought on by STRESS!!
