HI there this morning all of a sudden I got a sharp shooting pain up the left side of my neck just under my ear. No ear problems. I have not injured it at all that I am aware and it has got worse throughout the day. It is now extremely sensitive to touch like a burning pain. It is also sensitive when I move it. I have no idea what this could be. I had thought that it could be the start of shingles but I dont know if you can get it in your neck. It just feels hyper sensitive to touch.

Have you got a rash?

No
Joint problems from the neck or shoulder can create pains like that. I have a shoulder problem that causes shooting pains up as far as the jaw. I would watch it for a while and see what happens. It could be something to do with the position that you slept in last night.
gordie......watch out for the rash........shingles is distinctly in the frame.
I had shingles once and had no rash at all, just an itchy eye. I would have thought it was possible, and I'd be off to my doctor to have it looked at properly.

That said - a tweaked muscle and/or a twisted neck could be responsible; I've had that too.
