Deaf Through Sinus
13 Answers
Wonder if anyone can suggest anything which may help my husband. He had the bad flu virus just after Christmas and is still suffering with a "bunged up" ear (which isn't wax) and a hoarse voice caused by sinus. He can't shift his deafness by blowing his nose and his nose is clear now - it's just his ear now making him annoyed that he can't hear, although it keeps popping occasionally. Can anyone suggest a natural remedy?

//Head down to knees, pinch nose, blow. If that doesn't work, see your GP. //
Tried that thanks! Will a GP be able to give him medication to dissolve it methyl? He phoned a doctor 3 weeks ago who wouldn't prescribe anything. He has also asked the pharmacist who says "just be patient" - but it's been nearly 6 weeks now and it's driving him mad.

Not on your life… I see this 'pinch nose and blow' theory often and wonder why it's so prevalent when the fact is the Eustachian tubes (tiny tubes routed from the ears to the back of ones throat) are designed to drain downwards into the throat. By 'pinching and blowing' one is forcing the mucous back up the tubes. They are fairly small diameter wise and become swollen when infected.
Try this… hold your nose and swallow repeatedly. The suction caused by this action helps the yucky stuffy drain downward as intended...

Two things......the hoarsenss and the deafness.
Don't assume that the hoarseness is due to "sinus"....is he a smoker? If the hoarseness, persists for more than 6 weeks, then see you GP.
Deafness....it certainly sounds like "Eustachian catarrh, and needs a decongestant. Flixonase nasal spray which is available OTC should clear it up.
