A friend of mine got used to it. You have to try to relax is all the advice she gave.
I had the choice of a throat spray or a mild sedative injection. If you have the choice I would recommend the injection. No problem and I felt wonderful - all floaty afterwards Good luck fudge - hope its not too serious
For sure, go for the sedative. Hope it's all ok
Do you know how far down your throat, the camera will be going??
I had a polyp that needed a camera to investigate, so the camera didn't need to go down that far. I had a spray beforehand and they put the camera up my nose (the ear, nose and throat are all connected).
It wasn't what I'd call uncomfortable .... just a kind of weird sensation is the best way I can explain it .....
I just had the spray; I hated it and told the doctor to pull it back out again before he was done. He wasn't best pleased (though if the clot had told me he only had five seconds to go I could probably have hung on; but he didn't, until afterwards). I'd never do that again; take the sedative if it's offered.
Go for the sedative; the throat spray does no good at all and if you are unable to overcome your gag reflex it's a horrendous experience. If you want the sedative, ring and check in advance whether you are allowed to eat or drink anything one the day of the examination.
Joking, just make sure the Camera hasn't been up somebody's backside first
But joking aside I hope all goes well for you
I can only repeat the advice to have the sedation.
Have the sedation, it's not too bad after that.

how long after, can you go with sedation
You need to relax and keep breathing deeply.

The feeling is mildly intrusive, but it shouldn't be painful if the doctor or nurse is experienced and gentle.
I had it done without sedation,no problem, slightly uncomfortable but every one is different. If you go in with it on your mind that it is going to be terrible then it probably will be
can't answer your question but just to say hope all will be well x
There are a variety of things they can send down the throat

I have only had a bronchoscopy - and it is straightforward - they tell you what they are going to do and then they do it - simples
\\\\how long after, can you go with sedation\\\\\

depends........when you are fully awake, had a cuppa and steady on your feet...........you can go home........a couple of hours is about average.
but dont drive that day

I felt a bit hung over the next day to be honest [ midaz ]
I've had it done a couple of times, both with the throat spray, not sedation, so this is just my experience. The throat spray tasted like banana at first and then tasted kind of bitter, it makes your throat feel numb and when they put the camera in it made me gag, but it's not so bad if you just breathe when they tell you to. It doesn't take very long, but it's not very pleasant. It helps that the staff at the hospital I go to are wonderful, very friendly and they try to make everyone feel at ease (plus they always provide biscuits afterwards). Good luck!
I had general anaesthetic for mine so can't advise in that respect. Good luck though.
