Differing Opinions After A Blood Test.

I had a blood test recently and on collecting my results the Practice Nurse said my Liver Function Test response was distressingly high and that I shouldn't renew my passport unless I stop drinking immediately as non repairable damage was next - (cirrhosis of the liver) (That was seriously her attitude!). She would not tell me the levels but made me an appointment to see the GP who she said would (probably!) arrange for a Liver scan and biopsy. I saw GP today who suggested my LVT test was a little high but nothing to worry about just make sure I don't overdo it on the booze and stick to the 5-a- day fruit & veg, not follow up needed. I do drink but not to silly land! Do you think I should get another opinion?

I'd be more inclined to listen to the doctor, to be honest. Perhaps the nurse misread the results, or exaggerated the problem from something she'd read in a medical article or something.
If I were you I'd try to do what the doctor said, and try to keep the alcohol down, but don't think you're at death's door yet. "Don't renew your passport!" It sounds like one of those corny jokes about not starting War and Peace!

That is my instinct but I had a few worrisome nights until I saw my GP, maybe I have lost my sense of humour these days! Thanks for you input Cloverjo
I agree with Cloverjo.

Nurses should stick to nursing.
This would make me really angry, how dare a nurse tell you what do with your passport, in fact she shouldn't have discussed your results at all if a GP appt was required. This is my initial reaction at least.
I'd be inclined to make a complaint about the nurse. Listen to the Doctor SWF x
Ignore the the nurse -she is not qualified to make diagnosis of your liver function. She is qualified to record test results and pass then to your doctor -who is qualified to give a diagnosis. I would report the nurse she was out of order.
