Recently i have noticed a very strange smell coming from my right armpit. The smell is not the typical smell people would associate with Body Odour! The smell is hard to explain, the only way i can describe it is that it smells like infection/illness if that makes any sense. My personal hygiene is not to blame here as i have never had a problem with any type of body odour in my 24 years, and as mentioned above the smell is only coming from my right armpit! There are no visible signs of anything different on the armpit itself like redness or lumps. Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks

Could it be getting hotter/sweatier than the other armpit, eg from the way you hold a bag, say if under one armpit then maybe more likely to get sweatier than the other, depending on the bag of course.

I know you say no lumps but are there any spots or inflamed pores/follicles around your armpit which could be developing as some kind of boil/abscess? I get them and the smell is quite distinctive. How long has it been there? Another thought could be some kind of fungal infection.

Only other thing I can think of at the moment is do you shave your armpits? Am guessing not by your username though :)

The armpit does not seem to be any sweatier than the other. The smell started 3-4 days ago and i can not think of anything i have done differently than usual that could have triggered it. I do not shave my armpits, but i have always trimmed the hairs to the point where i can clearly see the skin. There are no lumps, redness, swelling or anything different than usual. As a regular gym user i have become aware of my usual scent after a workout and this is far from normal. It does not smell anything near to the smell usually associated with body odour. The smell will go away during showering but will re-appear almost as soon as i step out of the shower.
I think fungal or yeast infection is the likeliest culprit. Buy some Canesten cream from the chemist and apply as directed. If this doesn't cure the problem then a trip to the GP or practice nurse might be required.
