Broken Rib
10 Answers
Well, thanks to small, black, digging dog (ANYONE WANT ONE - FREE!) I let him out at night on Thursday to relieve himself, put my foot in an unauthorised and unnoticed hole, fell, felt something 'go' (hoped it was a muscle) and ended up at A&E in Scarborough this lunchtime, unable to breathe properly due to pain.
Yup, I have a broken rib! I'm now taking painkillers with religious fervency and trying to avoid all unnecessary activity on my R-h side. The hospital was saying that it would be about 3 months to heal if I was very good and avoided 'popping' it out again. Well, ok, but can I ease off with the ultra-care after the usual 6-weeks for a broken bone? (I accept that a rib is different because you have to move it to breathe.)

I would be telling the osteopath and the physio everything you have told us and taking their advice. It may well be that they will know what to do to help while you can't have the more robust treatments and can give advice on what you can be doing in the meantime so as not to go backwards. It may well be that they can also access some or all of your medical notes, which we can't.
Fell over 3 weeks ago and corner of a chair went into my ribs. Extreme pain, having had this before, did not panic, as rib fracture or bruising takes time to mend, but sneezing did not help!!! Had an xray, confirmed that nothing broken. just severe bruising, incredibly painful at night when moving. Doctor prescribed co-codamol with the anti-constipation pills, these pills just made me feel sick, so now just on 400g ibruprofen twice a day.
Getting better daily, painful at night and first 2 hours up.
Truly hope all will be well soon.

Thank you all again it's very kind of you. :) I slept OK until 5 a.m.,but after that it was agonising.
It's eased off this morning after taking the prescribed co-codamol (solpadol 30/50) and ibuprofen tablets, but I then started feeling very heavy and went to sleep! Just been sick however. :( Nil desperandum!
