I've Hurt My Knee.

I dropped my purse in the kitchen and bent sort of sideways to pick it up. My feet stayed still and I twisted my right knee. It's really painful, just below my knee, at the top of my shin. I don't think I'll be playing badminton this week, or line dancing.

I am just taking Ibuprofen. They do help. Shall I get one of those elasticated knee supports, or just leave it to get better by itself?

Ice pack. Possibly cartilage tear. Monitor see GP if no improvement as may require xray/MRI scan.
If it is not swollen, the leave it well alone........however, if there is any swelling tomorrow morning, then it may be well worth getting an elasticated support.

Of course..........the Ibuprofen....;-)

Thanks, Furry. I have an ice pack. I'll put it in the fridge.

Not swollen yet, Sqad. Is it likely to swell?
BA to Sqad! ;-)
Wrap ice pack in towel so not directly touching skin. Apply for 20 minutes or so and reapply when necessary. I have had 3 tears in 15 months, 2 on right knee 1 on left, all required surgery. Fingers crossed your injury is not too serious.

Thanks again, Furry.

How did you damage your knees?
\\\\\Not swollen yet, Sqad. Is it likely to swell?\\\

No idea.
I'll second that, Jack
Question Author
Righto, Sqad. Let's hope it doesn't.
Similar circumstances, turned my body whilst foot on ground. After that I could not turn my foot outwards without causing more pain. Had MRI scan which showed tear. I do have osteoarthritis in both knees and the cartilage has worn which makes it easier to tear.
Me too Furry, osteoathritis in both knees. Awful isn't it.
Question Author
I don't have osteoarthritis, Furry, so, hopefully mine is just a minor injury.

We must both remember to swivel!
Question Author
It must be awful, Sam. Are you always in pain?
Very true. You don't always think though. Hope it soon recovers.
Pour yourself a glass of relaxant, elevate the leg and rest it.
Question Author
Will do, Hoppy, after dinner.
How is it now, Tilly?
RICE Tilly, rest, ice, compress, elevate. When you elevate, have a soft roll of something under your knee so its not dead straight
