Morning everyone. Ok so I've had this unbearable itching on my face for months and months now - mainly my nose strangely enough but occasionally the rest of the face. It feels like I've got thousands of spiders crawling on my skin is the only way I can describe it. It's such a horrendous feeling that I've scratched my face/nose to the point of breaking the skin. I've tried antihistamines but they make no difference . I've been to the doctors twice but he just says he can't see anything and maybe it's an allergic reaction but I can't carry on like this. Has anybody every experienced this or heard of it?? X

Could be connected to your bedbugs post (?). Mention it to doctor.

Morning guys. No the bedbugs issue is sorted and honestly don't think it's anything to do with that. In fact the more I think about it I've had this longer than I originally thought. It's driving me completely insane
It isn't Rosacea is it Smow?
Question Author
No, it isn't. My skin/ nose doesn't look any different and isn't red. The only thing that you can see is the scratches from where I've scratched
The itching
How odd smow!
Could be:

Makeup / face wipes / washing powder / conditioner / towels / bedding / perfume / other half's aftershave.

Have you tried a good quality allergy test?
Have you tried different sorts of antihistamines, Smow?
Pruritis formicans.

Maybe associated with many conditions e.g allergies, diabetes etc....Google it.

Dificult to treat and if it is intolerable, then oral steroids my be needed.
Are you on any medication or recently changed a medication?
Could be shampoo/conditioner. You forget that they run over your face when rinsing off.
Central heating can also dry the skin.
I have had that, and it turned to be a reaction to Lanolin..now I am l
Lanonlin free, so no itching .

Hang on - just going to Google what SqAd suggested
Question Author
Is it called anything else Sqad as nothing comes up for that exact wording

Try this.
I think it can also be linked with hormonal changes in ladies.
....yup, google hormonal formication, loads of websites. I had it mildly, found crotamiton useful but it may have been a placebo effect.
Had this exact itch for years, I have even said to the GP, 'it feels like tiny insects running about under my skin', given Loratidine.
Still have it, mostly round chin/nose/mouth area.
