Suspected Norovirus But Blood Sugars Awful Despite Not Eating Anything

It started with achy joints all over and at about 1pm I had horrendous d & V with hot and cold sweats I suspect it is the norovirus. I cant even have a glass of water. However my blood sugars are awful at 13.1 without me having eaten anything. I took 2 metformin with a tin of soup and oatcakes just before the d&v started not eaten anything all afternoon or for tea. Does your blood sugars go up when you are ill. Type 2 btw

I don`t know anything about blood sugar levels but I would imagine that they could go up if you are dehydrated? (which you would probably be with a d&v bug)

Norovirus is vile, I had it last year, but I'm not diabetic gordie. Hope you feel better very soon.

I had norovirus last year too. It's dreadful. I was in hospital for two days, but there is really nothing they can do. Stay hidrated and don't eat anything, it will pass.

From what I remember infections can raise blood sugar levels.

My sugars go high when under stress, whether that be at work, behind the wheel or when enduring high temperatures or illness. I'm type 1.

gordie, your blood sugars will be high when you're poorly. It's important that you drink plenty when you are able to but make sure it is sugar free - water is best. Keep up with your medication.
