Trt, I was on steroids non stop for five months last year, eight weeks of which I was on a high dose (40mgs which is eight tablets).
I experienced many of the side effects including the moon face, buffalo hump, water retention (which affected my eyesight), mood swings, hot flushes, terrible indigestion requiring lots of prescribed medication, heavy legs, sleeplessness, and worst of all I developed steroid induced diabetes needing two nights in hospital hooked up to an insulin pump and IV fluids.
They can also affect bone density and as I was already diagnosed with osteoporosis, the medication I took for that was increased considerably.
I tailed off the steroids gradually and took my final one at the end of November and now ALL the side effects have now gone, apart from type 2 diabetes but even that isn't causing me any problem.
The reason I had to take steroids is different to you but I will probably have to take them again at some point.
For the good they do, for various ailments, it's worth putting up with the (temporary) side effects if you can. Your doctor know you best though so I'm sure they will advise you.
Best wishes x
