Dog Very Thin And Pooing All The Time?

I am looking after my son's dog a small Labrador. He is very thin, you can count his ribs. A healthy appetite , but within an hour or less of eating he starts pooing repeatedly, small amounts at a time but lots of them, 21 so far this morning! My son says it just shows what a healthy digestive system he has and says he has always been like it, but I think there is something wrong. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem (not on the lawn) and I have IBS. It could be the dogs diet.

When you say a small lab do you mean compared to your lab or is it not an adult yet?

21 times in one morning. Dear me, poor poor thing. How old is he? Is he getting good quality food? Your son is kidding himself if he thinks that's OK. No wonder he's thin. I can't believe anyone can think that's alright.

You should not be able to count the ribs on a labrador - it's not a whippet. The dog is ill.

Eddie is the dog a grazer or does he just have set meal times and no access to food in between those set meal times?

The dog is a cross I think definitely some whippet in there.
Looked at the poo no sign of worms.
Son says he only has only one meal a day in the evening, but he is constantly begging for food, when you feed him he wolfs it down in few seconds .

Have never fed a dog less than twice a day.
Have never had a fat dog either.

How old is the dog?
Is he lively and active, bright eyed and bushy tailed?

My cat Frankie guzzles his food down so quickly it would be barfed back up. He is on steroids. No excess pooing though. He can pee for Scotland.

I have labs and whilst you should be able to feel their ribs you should not be able to see them! Do you know how much he weighs? A healthy lab should weigh between 25 and 30 kilos. Generally they go twice a day, labs will always gobble down food, does he only eat dry food? If so how much is he getting again rule of thumb if its dry food he should be on about 350-450grams a day.

Sounds like a bad case of worms - vets asap - pets at home have vets open at the weekends and bank holidays.

Sorry just to agree with Baldric - I find feeding dogs twice a day fits in better with their human companions too.

might be worms, might be the food not agreeing, might be IBS or malabsorption...either way not normal poor boy. To vet please.

I would have no hesitation whatsoever in taking this dog to the vet. Poor creature.
