Before I go bothering the doctor I thought I'd talk to you guys. For weeks and weeks now the skin area over where my left hip is keeps getting what I can only describe as throbbing stabbing pains which come and go. They can be really intense. There is nothing to see and if I touch the area it doesn't hurt, but when I walk I sometimes feel a pain inside the actual hip. I was laying in bed this morning and it was pulsating with these stabbing pains so bad that I was really really uncomfortable, and then I noticed that I was having the same pains in my right leg too. Several months ago I had some blood tests done for something else and they also checked for every kind of arthritis - all came back completely clear. I would say the pain covers an area the size of a saucer, and not just a tiny specific point. Any ideas??

Blood tests will not indicate Osteoarthritis.
Seems an X-Ray of hip would be the first port of call.
My right hip has been very painful in the mornings lately. I woke up this morning to find a 5.5Kg mass of tom cat sleeping on my hip and with his claws embedded in my hip so that he didn't roll off. He wasn't too keen on moving.

I hope that you find out what is causing your discomfort. Sometimes small health niggles seem to have quite a bit off impact in our life.

They do indeed wolf. I'd like to think I eat pretty healthily and go swimming twice a week so I'm a bit baffled.
Sqad - does the skin pain make any sense to you?
Yes it does.....it may be due to trapped nerve ( Lateral Cutaneous nerve if thigh)
I will try and get you a link.......hold on.

That burning sensation is exactly what it feels like! Ok a trip to the doctors me thinks. Thanks for that Sqad - most interesting x
Just commiserating with you, I have trochanteric bursitis and get awful burning and needle like pain over a large section of my hip/thigh, had it years ago and steroid injections got shot of it, it came back over one thigh and just had another steroid injection in it this morning.

I hope you find out what it is and get some relief soon.

Eve I absolutely sympathise. I can't describe how painful it is xx

Well I went to the doctor this morning and told her about the burning pain and also now my actual hips seem to be hurting slightly when I go upstairs and she says she's pretty sure I've got osteoarthritis!! I'm still in my 40's for gods sake! She sent me for an X ray which I've just got back from but has already said that's not always 100% a definite diagnosis and I don't even get the results for two weeks. Not what I was expecting her to say at all: (

Never google a diagnosis.....

Question Author
