Are There Any Wig Wearers Out There?
13 Answers
Due to recent illness and treatment, I'm starting to lose my hair, which is very thin and fine at the best of times, but now starting to come out whenever combed, or even if I just run my hands through it. I've been looking at wigs online and was amazed at how natural they look nowadays, but wondered which were best to have, real hair or synthetic and would I have to cut all my own hair off first? Any advice and opinions would be welcome, thanks very much.

Talking to the hospital sounds a good idea when I'm next at a clinic, they have all been really helpful with various other issues I've had, so would probably be helpful with this too.
What I'd like to know from people who actually wear them is - are they hot or itchy nowadays with all the different cap linings you seem to be able to get nowadays and questions like that. Thanks very much.

Sorry to hear you're losing your hair, but if it's from cancer treatment? Is so, then you will been given a Macmillan nurse? She should be able to tell you where to get one from. The internet is not a good idea , you need to be shown how to fit it on.
I wear a wig, the NHS will buy you one, which I chose myself at the wig shop in my hospital.,I'm lucky cos I'm at The Christie.
Real or synthetic I couldn't say. Mine is synthetic, and I love it, so much so I bought another one and paid for it myself!
They are not hot to wear, mine are v comfortable,. You wear a thin skullcap beneath them, so if you want to keep what hair you still have, you can tuck it under that.
there's more, bear with me...
There are some lovely turbans on Amazon + Ebay, you could treat yourself to a few on there

During my time as a wig wearer I did find it a bit warm and itchy (synthetic) but luckily it was over the winter time. However good they may be at everyday styling you need a hairdresser who's been trained in wig styling, it's a special skill. I wish there had been some when I needed help and advice.
All the best, hope your own hair grows back quickly.
