Got my sons girlfriend staying with me at the mo.
My sons just told me that his GF has had a really heavy period for the last 9 days. She's feeling really lethargic/tired.
1) Are there any effective suppliments that she could take to help?
2) Is this anything to see the GP about? (this isn't usual for her)
Shes 26 and has had numerous health problems including treatment for leukemia when she was 14 and more recently a blood clot on the lung.
TIA for any help/advice
Def doctors then. When I had the implant I never had a period and nor has any of my friends. She might need a few blood tests to see if she's deficient in anything.
My mistake. Just been told that she had the implant taken out (but still had irregular periods with it) after being treated for a blood clot on the lung a few months ago. Shes since had a coil fitted and is on blood thinners.
Thanks for further replies.
She cant get to see her own GP at the mo as she doesn't live around this area but have persuaded her to ring 111. so will see what they say.
Thanks again for replies guys.
She does need to see her GP, given her medical history. Her anticoagulation will definitely make her periods worse.
In the meantime I would think it would be entirely reasonable to take some iron supplements.
I suffer fatigue every cycle now which is an ongoing complication of pregnancy related anaemia. Iron helps combat the fatigue but can cause lose, black stools.
Thanks CG,
She's just got of the phone from 111 and they've basically told her what others here have said...see a GP. As she isnt in her home town they told her to register as a tempory patient.
Thanks again all, much appreciated.
Quick update since posting this morning.
Just got back home and sons GF has been given a letter and told to get herself up to A&E.
On the letter it says //as bleeding not stopping on blood thinners needs FBC check and r/w AE admission//
Whats FBC check and r/w admission mean?
Thanks again for any help.
