After her defeat to 15 year old Corrie Gauff, does her interview show she’s embarrassed of does she just avoid giving the press any sensational headlines?

She seems stunned and embarrassed, and wishes she didn’t have to be answering questions so just does the bare minimum. Worse still in her mind, most of the questions are about the 15-year old opponent who just whipped her ass, which rubs salt into her wound. I can see why some would consider she’s being rude here. The Williams sisters clearly never went to charm school

Naomi, the players are usually obliged to take part in post-match interviews. Naomi Osaka was fined just a few weeks ago for not doing so. Serena Williams was fined last year for the same thing.

She was gracious, if a little reticent but perhaps she was expecting to answer questions about her own performance, not about the potential of her conqueror. A few leading questions toward the end of the interview but not one of the journos dared ask the question; "Venus, at 39, is this the beginning of the end for you?"
Naomi, are you quite sure about their obligation to face the press. I always believed they, like Premier League managers, were obliged to attend the post match interview?

I'm undecided. The Williams sisters aren't the most diplomatic of sportspeople and I think I come down on the side of 'curt answers to avoid showing too much emotion and digging a hole for herself'.

She doesn't seem particularly embarrassed, just bored and desperate to finish the obligatory press stuff and get out of there.

She must be sick of these most match interviews by now. I mean, how many different ways are there to say either 'I'm pleased to have won' or 'I'm disappointed to have lost'.
