My friend's mum died earlier this year aged 93 and she had the job of clearing out her house. When my friend was a child there was one cupboard that none of the family were allowed to touch. It was the first aid cupboard and only mother had a key. She got the key, a black plastic bag and prepared to throw away years of out of date medicines etc. What did she find? Twelve bottles of Whisky and one packet of paracetamol. She roared with laughter as did I when she told me.

She usually had a bottle by her bed, complained the carers were drinking it until one day we found her drunk as a lord, which took some doing with my mum! She kept forgetting she'd already had some so from then on it was rationed - surprising how much longer a bottle lasted. She died at 93 too.
