There information is clear and not scary. I read it for my own relative (not prostrate patient). It comes with the recommendation of my relative's oncology department - (NHS).
Some PSA readings are in the hundreds, but I think you are really in trouble, then. My GP insisted on 6-monthly PSA tests for me. They started off at 4, which is quite normal but when one test recorded 10 I was referred to a specialist who, taking other factor into consideration such as frequently getting up at night to pee, urgency, difficulty starting and stopping, and even leaking (!), recommended an operation - which I had. It was the best decision I ever made. Boyhood pressure returned and quality of life improved.
The fact is that most GPs are reluctant to recommend the operation unless the symptoms are causing discomfort or inconvenience. Urologists take an interest when the PSA reaches double figures. I expect your relative has had a rectal examination. This indicates enlargement of the prostate gland and whether it is benignly or malignantly affected. I am not medically qualified - just experienced in the subject ! Good luck to your relative.

I've just had the transrectal prostate ultrasound + biopsies and that has shown up something. Specialist recommends complete removal of prostate rather than radiotherapy. I'm 59. How was it for you. I've a dilemma about the op, but need reassurance over side effects, ie impotence and incontinence!!!!! Thanks.
