NHS payment for treatment in Canada
7 Answers
I have dual citerzenship Canada/UK, presently living in Ontario Canada. I have been diagnosed with Breast cancer and due for mastectomy. 2Q's: 1. could i receive reconstruction in the UK ( I am looking at a procedure that isn't common in Ontario but is in the US).
2. If this operation is not covered by Ontario health insurance i have been told that UK NHS might be able to be billed for it- is this a possibility?

I'm afraid I can't answer your question but wonder if you have you considered how you would cope if you were able to have the procedure done over here and it either went wrong, or you had an infection or something similar and needed subsequent follow up treatment? If the procedure isn't common in Ontario, would the medical skills be available there for follow-up if you were unable to travel back to England for some reason. It would be very stressful for you to be stuck miles away from your surgeon and consultant. I hope that somebody here will be able to provide an answer for you.
