She was told a doctor from the hospital would ring her this afternoon. He rang her first thing this morning and had a long chat to her. He has decided that she must have an endoscopy and a colonoscopy along with a blood test. One reason for this is that about 30 yrs ago she had what can only be called a really bad episode of ulcerative colitis right out of the blue. No previous problems but one Saturday evening she felt unwell and didn't want to eat anything, by Sunday she had the runs and early Monday she rang and asked us to pick her up from her flat and take her to the docs as she was passing blood from her back passage. When we got there we couldn't believe the state she was in and her dad just wrapped her up in a large bath towel, put her in the car and took her to hospital. By Monday night at 1am she was so ill we were called back to the hospital and we thought we were losing her. In all she had 46 pints of blood transfused into her and was in hospital for nearly 4 weeks and off work for 4 months. A camera showed she had 5 'hot spots' in her colon which were then well monitored. She had regular check ups for a few years after that but thank goodness she has never had another episode. There are some foods she avoids and that is not a problem. He couldn't give her a date yet but she is now on 80mg of Omeprazole daily for the next six weeks.
