Three or four times recently I've experienced brief dizzy spells while walking. If I hadn't been using walking poles I think I'd have fallen.
I wasn't dehydrated or hungry when these happened.
Any thoughts?

Might it be age related?
Question Author
Bookbinder,
Very likely, yes
Have you started any new medication?
Low blood pressure?
If such dizzy spells are age-related, it seems to me that no amount of medication would help. We are like machines: parts wear out; parts do not work as they used to. We shall just have to be aware that dizzy spells can happen, and be on our guard, I suppose.
Could it be ear-related?
Blood pressure check would do no harm sandy .
Could it just be that you're struggling with the heat a little?
Have you recently had the sniffles?
Blood pressure drop. It happens to me quite a lot.
I agree with aa sandy.
I'd also be getting my blood pressure checked. It may not be that but it's probably the first thing your GP will do.
Even if you're not dehydrated people with low blood pressure are advised to drink more.
Get yourself tested for Blood pressure and Diabetes. Next time you go walking take a small bottle of Lucozade and a mini Mars Bar. I get dizzy spells like that when I'm short of sugar -I don't feel hungry or thirsty and am not diabetic.
Just to cheer you up Sandy, every old person I know suffers from dizzy spells and I'm afraid not one of them has managed to find a cure, including me. We just live with it. Sorry.

Thank you all for your replies.
Im on no new medication but I've had a cold/sniffles for some weeks. I thought it might have been hayfever.
I'll see my GP as soon as I can.

I'll also drink more water and get some Lucozade and mars bars.
Thanks all.
I always go for something sweet when my blood pressure drops. I've been tested for diabetes which I don't have.

I'm usually at home so just grab a few bits of fruit and a drink.
The only elderly person I know that has dizzy spells is my next door neighbour who was diagnosed as having Vertigo, so if sandyRoe is getting them often, perhaps it's best to talk to the GP?
Before you reach for something to drink just check whether it contains aspartame sweetener. This can sometimes cause dizziness .Not with everyone but it's as well to know.
