Today I had to visit my local hospital to collect some Gastrografin in advance of a procedure to be undertaken on Friday 13th. My wife dropped me off at the main entrance as I walked through with my smiley mask affixed. There was a large woman sitting at a small table with a tray of masks on it. She looked like she was a poppy seller. I used the hand cleanser on the wall of reception and carried on walking to the CTC suite. A voice boomed at me,'come back here and take a mask' I walked back and asked if she was talking to me.'Put this mask on and wear it in the hospital'. She then proffered it to me on the end of a pair of wooden tongs like I was a walking Covid Germ.I was sorely tempted to tell her to shove her inferior paper tissue mask where the sun don't shine.
I asked her what was wrong with my mask and she replied,'Nothing but we need to stop covid so you must wear this mask' I then asked her if I would get another mask on Friday or do I keep the one she had just given me as a souvenir. She said,' keep it if you like'.
If the NHS let some job's worth hand out inferior masks to visitors to the hospital and demand I replace my medical grade re-useable mask then why the hell do I bother wearing my mask in other public venues if it isn't deemed suitable. Obviously why no apparent improvement over the last 20 or so years no matter how much wasted money is thrown at it. No quibble if they have the Gestapo insisting a mask is worn but to hand out inferior ones to visitors who already comply by wearing their own seems stupid..

^ that was to bobbin.
Thanks retro.Set the scene perfectly!
I don't really wear a mask. The one I do use was given to me back in April and I put that on only when going to the Supermarket, but I never cover my nose and mouth with it. I just have it on under my chin. It's done 8 months now. I'm expecting to still have it when we come out of lockdown In The Year 2525.

I tried to answer ag's previous enquiry. Do you not read previous requests or posts. I was asked to describe signage. I described it. None pertaining to this non descript person. She was not a nurse. I described her clothing. My wife was a nurse for over 40 years and recently retired. I recognise NHS uniforms. I stated she was not wearing a badge. (That is so you might appreciate that I was unaware who was addressing me and with what authority)
I am not seriously offended. I am disgusted this woman is allowed to talk/shout at people for no reason in this manner.I would have had the uniform off my back in quick time if I dared address members of the public like she did.
As I also have opined. There is the issue of being told to wear a face covering by the government and then told to replace it in an arrogant way.It gives the impression to some that their attempts to comply are totally worthless no matter how much money or difficulty they have expended in order to comply. This lady is not going to be handing out her 'superior' mask to mine when I leave the front door so it's not worth making the effort with what I have provided for myself. It's a self defeating exercise by the NHS.Give them out or sell them to those who enter a hospital without. Refuse entry if they think that is the ethical way for a hospital to be run. Don't harrangue those who just want a quiet life and have responded to a request to pick up some pre procedure prep from a dept without the third degree.Civility costs nothing.
Your clutching at straws post do'sn't make any sense to me iluvmarjie so your points wasted on me and probly others but thanks for reading mine
^^^ If man is still alive^^^
If it makes you feel so clever 10clarianst good for you , you must be a hoot at the golf club, for the way your sticking two fingers to everyone else
By saying a busy nurse might be behind her in the next supermarket she goes to - ridiculous!!
Time to chill retrocop? She was right to provide a mask but wrong in the way she did it, but its better to smile politely or point out politely at the time. Posting rants like this might make you feel better but wont help her or the hospital or other visitor's/patient's and seems to have taken over your day. Have a beer and put your feet up or have a soake in the bath
Go for it bob! Further to my earlier post, I haven't used any hand sanitiser either. At all, at all. At all. Covid is here to stay. We aint gonna stop the spread of the virus, contrary to what all the signs say in the shops and malls. The only way it will be stopped is with a vaccine that works. Or perhaps herd immunity. Whichever comes foist. Your ordinary person in the street with few or no health problems, has more chance of being hit by a meteorite than developing the illness. Fore!!
Okay ilovemarjie- it doesnt really matter tho, whether its a carer shopping for someone, or a teacher or a pharmacist or a schoolkid or anyone. all peopel matter. Why inconvenience anyone, we should all be supporting each other. But if unsureme enjoyed having to pick all his/her shopping off the shelves somewhere else good for him/her on that, shame peopel cant be more tolrant.
//So you made your point in your own way unsureme by walking off without your shopping about the rude tone but surely you then wasted however long it took you to refill your trolly somewhere else, and also inconvenienced whoever was queing behind you, maybe a busy nurse//

So what would you have done? I have left my shopping on a number of occasions when I have been badly spoken to in a supermarket. Yes, it caused me inconvenience but sometimes needs must. Shame about the busy nurse standing behind me (though people of other occupations do use the shops). He or she could register their disgust with the store manager.

//you must be a hoot at the golf club, for the way your sticking two fingers to everyone else//

You must have missed it but golf clubs are currently closed (in England, at any rate - no idea what goes on in other parts of the UK). You can go for a walk across a field with your mate. But if the pair of you do it with a set of golf clubs across a field with eighteen holes marked out and you could be up before the Beak.
Myself and Er indoors , visited our local hospital this evening

We were wearing clean masks ( made by her indoors )

On entering the hospital we were made to sanitise our hands and told that we had to swap our masks for theirs ,by a pleasant enough lady .

By the way - just asked er indoors if the consultant was wearing a mask .
We don't remember that he was
So it seems, Baz, that the NHS is acting contrary to the guidance issued by HM Government. I wonder why? If the masks recommended by the guidance are provide insufficient protection in hospitals, surely they must be similarly deficient elsewhere.
NJ @19.32: //But if the pair of you do it with a set of golf clubs across a field with eighteen holes marked out and you could be up before the Beak.//

This point hasn't been lost on golfers, NJ. All and sundry can go on the golf course; joggers; dog walkers; people just going for a walk; cyclists etc but if you go on with a set of clubs you're gonna get a severe larrapping!
not really judge. Weer told to wash are hands regular and use gel but its not unreasonable for hospitals to insist we wash them/gel up even tho we might have done it outside. Just go along with it and stop looking to make problems
Clarion/NJ.

The difference is obvious to me.
Your losing the argument when you start changing the subject to golf. Your clearly not seeing the big picture.
Some do, some don’t. Some will, some won’t. Let’s call the whole thing off. Pour yourself a stiff one retro. Officious people abound. Don’t let the ******** grind you down.
If masks are effective against Covid,
Then why do we still have Covid after months of wearing masks?
Just curious.

Same with lockdowns?
