I can honestly say it was the worst pain I had ever had, worse than childbirth and I even ended up calling NHS direct in the night and they said it is the most phone calls they get in the night from people who have dental pain. If it gets too bad you can get stronger painkillers from the doctor which I had to do .. and I never even usually take one paracetamol! But rest assured that when you have any treatment it will not hurt because they are so skilful at numbing you now. So nothing to worry about just a horrible thing to have
Hi I once had this, went to have a tooth out, had about 5 injections and nothing would numb the tooth. It also turned out to have an abcess which the dentist did not notice. Apprantly nothing numbs the tooth if an abcess is present. So take the anti biotics and pain killers. After the abcess has gone away the dentist should be able to take the tooth out, no problem.
I too am still scared of the dentist, but have had such good ones that they tell me what they are doing and what is happening which makes it easier. Just a tip for you, keep taking the antiboitics - most important. Rinse your mouth with tepid salt water solution every few hours - helps kill the infection. Also, instead of ibuprofe, take Solphodine Max - they are both pain killer and anti inflamatory. That is of course unless you are Asthmatic. Hang in there - just before last christmas I was in so much pain and swelling - I was on the point of going to A & E to get them to drain the abcess but I held out for my dentist who took one look at the tears running down my face, got hold of my hand took me into her room and told me this would hurt but would have relief - boy was she right, the pain was insignificant compared to the relief. It will get better soon. Hope all goes well and try and worry about something else.
My Dad grew up in a time when if you had any tooth problems, the solution was to whip them all out... He only has several bottom ones left. He had to chew on a chain kind of thing to loosen them...
You wouldn't get away with it now. There was nothing wrong with his teeth. You'll be fine and think yourself lucky!
