Booster?

I was not aware of the option to have a third vaccination instead of a booster.
Apparently those with a compromised immune system can choose the former. My son had the booster yesterday and today can hardly move and feels like death. Choose wisely.

Even those receiving a third vaccine will need a booster of some sort later.

The current situation is that, for the vast majority of people, a booster jab will either be a regular dose of the Pfizer vaccine or a half dose of the Moderna one. Anyone who had the AstraZeneca vaccine for their first two jabs will normally be switched to one of the two alternatives for their booster but, where there are contraindications to the use of either of those jabs, special arrangements can be made for AZ to be used again if needed.

Yes NHS UK does offer third primary doses for those who are in the high compromised immune category.

Isn't the third vaccination just called "booster" because it just boosts the immune system. I did not think the third shot was different from the first or second apart from the AZ not being used routinely

After OH's horrendous reaction to the Pfizer vaccination I want to have an A-Z booster - it doesn't seem to be available as yet. I'm not risking the Pfizer having seen what it did.

think those who have a 'third' dose because of there immune systems will still need a booster.
The booster is no stronger than a third dose so am not sure I understand the issue?
Davidsmall. hope your son feels better soon. Its not upto the receipent to choose which to have - the NHS decides who need a third dose rathe than a booster based on there records

an antigen is an antigen is an antigen - - thx to Gertrude Stein or Alice B Toklas. Your immune system doesnt read the vial and think - "oo-er now the reaction to THIS jab has to be...."

I am not sure of the lit on third doses - better with a different vaccine apparently, and as good as half a dose apparently. None of you are immunocompromised: you dont have to know the lit about this.

The 3rd jab is offered 8 weeks after the 2nd (obviously for a lot of people this is irrelevant, since it is probably more than that). They will be offered thae booster in a further 6 months.

To clarify. My son is immune suppressed as he contracted an illness where his own immune system was destroying him. He has been on immune suppressant’s for a few years. NHS know this is the case. He took the booster as opposed to risking COVID. He had a reaction to the vaccines as well. I’m hoping he will recover as he did before. Thank you all for your kind words.

A friend who has Parkiinsons was given a third dose and was told that she should have a booster 6 months after that, except she'd already had a booster. Non joined-up thinking by the NHS.

jourdain if you see this, I don't think you can get the AZ booster.
My first two jabs were AZ but for the booster I could only have half dose Moderna. The Pfizer vaccine was offered to me but I couldn't have that one.

I've not been offered an alternative to Pfizer --- P.P. I am not so daft as to think I must also get OH's horrible reaction to Pfizer; just that having seen how ill it made him for so long I am unwilling to risk it when I had fairly normal reactions to the A-Z (immense tiredness and an evil headache for 48 hours. I can be school-marmy too! :)

My thanks to Parsley-D for confirming that you can have A-Z as a booster - I'll chase that up.

jourdain - I, too, had a pretty bad reaction to the Pfizer booster (very sore arm and flu-like shivers) having had no effects at all from my 2 AZ jabs. Still glad I had it done, though, especially seeing what is happening in Europe now....
