Sertraline - How Long Before It Takes Effect

I’ve had long Covid since last April and have got progressively more anxious. The doctor started me on Sertraline last Wednesday but I feel almost as if it’s making me worse. I’ve googled it and it seems that it does do that but does anyone know how long before it starts working please? I feel all trembly and shaky and even though I tell myself it will pass, it seems to just go in and on.I’m on my own so things do get on top of me. I’m 82.

Our bodies react differently to drugs, Helly, but on average, i would say Sertraline takes about 3 weeks to a month before any benefits are felt.

I should have added, that was the case for me when i began taking it. I honestly do not recall feeling worse in the meantime but, as i said, our bodies react differently. I was on Citalopram prior to that and i was climbing walls and eating wallpaper for a month! Yet i have friends who swear by it.

Depends.
Humans react differently to many drugs and Sertraline is one of them.

If you are lucky you will start feeling better after 2 weeks.
If you are less lucky, it may take 6 months before you feel better.

If you are unlucky it may take years or may not work at all.

Be patient.

Patience is not one of my virtues sqad. Thank you for your concern. As far as the long Covid is concerned I do feel better than I did so I must just wait it out it seems.

Most of these antidepressants have these unpleasant side effects for 2-3 weeks. Give it another week at least, hellywelly, If you're still concerned, try and have a word with you GP, who might put your mind at rest.

Thank you Patsy. I’ve telephoned the gp and am waiting for a call back.
