Reduce Levothyroxine Daily Dose Say Latest Blood Tests
8 Answers
I have been on 150 Mg per day for a long time re underactive thyroid. I had blood tests just to check levels etc about 10 days ago. Today I’ve had a message saying I’m now taking too much and to reduce it to 125mg per day. Would this have anything to do with the fact that since starting taking it Ive lost 4 stone? I cannot get to speak to my doctor to ask why he’s lowered the dose until next week. (Just a message to say he has prescribed 25mg tabs to replace the 50mg ones and to collect the prescription).

"One of the symptoms of an underactive thyroid gland is weight gain. So, once you start taking levothyroxine, you may lose weight as your body's hormones rebalance. ***Losing weight can also be a sign that your dose of levothyroxine is too high.***
Once your thyroid hormone levels have returned to normal, your tendency to gain or lose weight is the same as for people who do not have thyroid problems." [emphasis added]
