Would it be possible to have private messaging on AB?

Would it not be a good idea to have private messaging on AB as on some other sites firstly to enable fuller answers without the whole world knowing your life story on some occasions and secondly to stop all this backbiting and chat?Also people with very in depth personal questions might feel more at ease. I appreciate that it's a public forum for answers but feel that it might actually help sometimes.

that is a superb idea, but don't forget, personal messages can be copied cut and pasted, and there are people on all sites who would gladly cause unnecessary mayhem and turmoil by using the copy and paste option to enforce their own ideals.

If we all PM each other then no one would write on the main boards and no one would benefit from answers to other peoples questions? Just a board of unanswered questions!

I think most people would still post on the main boards, they seem to on similar sites. I think they'd just be able to expand their answers somewhat without fear of repercussions or embarassment if we had this option, plus likeminded people could make contact with one another, not really possible unless you post your email addy for the whole world to see.
