Dog flea saliva allergie help needed

my dog has flea salive allergie, i use front line every 4 weeks plus evening primrose every day the vet has changed his food plus we have always sprayed the house but he still gets bites he then bites his hair out into large bold patches & some times he even bleeds, he has to go on steroids which make him ill, i use witch hazel to cool him dowm but nothing seems to work, i have now found out Brewers Yeast is good so i am going to get some today.

Please if any one knows of any thing more to help him it would be most welcome Thank you.

well with respect where does he get the fleas from? if your home is clear and he is treated regularly, how does he get reinfested...poss from hedgehogs or foxes? can you limit his access to them somehow? Do you use the kind of house spray that has a long lasting effect?

I do sympathise, I have a country dog, but we are fortunate, the only time she ever got fleas. she got them off my husband who got them from a taxi (long story)

The spray comes from the vet which is to be used once a year but we do it more, with having a very small garden we take him to the big parks has we have no where else to take him, we do have foxs around where we live & he has been injected for fox mange has well.

What has changing his food got to do with a flea bite allergy? Unless of course the vet makes a BIG profit from selling you the food. Do you use the frontline spray or the drops? The spray is more efficient. Aloe Vera spray is also good for soothing any itchy patches.

A good quality flea shampoo would also help.

I can sympathise with you and your dog as I'm also hypersensitive to flea bites! Flea Allergy Dermatitis can be awful for both owner and animal.

Controlling fleas numbers and your dog's access to fleas are the best ways to combat the problems caused by them. As woofgang said, dogs most commonly get fleas from foxes and hedgehogs - and hedgehogs can be present even in small gardens!

Vacuuming your house once or even twice a day, coupled with insecticide treatment, is the best way to get rid of the fleas, eggs and larvae that may be there (Fleas lay eggs within 2-3 days of landing on the host, these eggs drop off the animal wherever it goes).

Do you let your dog off the lead when he is out, or does he tend to run about through bushes and undergrowth? Could you try walking him along roads as opposed to a park?

The best flea control chemicals you can get are the ones prescribed by a vet!

Thank you Noweia, no he is always on the lead & the last month he has been walking along the paths & not running around, you have given me some thing to think about has i never even thought about us having an allergie to their fleas, i really do feel for you, yes my mum hoovers & washes the floor once or twice a day it is some thing you have to do, i know that foxes are around where they live so that is a big problem.
