Do not let the discomfort of motion sickness disrupt your travel plans. Motion sickness can be prevented. Herbal remedies and over-the-counter products can help treat mild discomfort; however, prescription strength medicine may be needed by persons who tend to develop nausea and vomiting. Scopolamine, the active ingredient in the prescription medicine SCOPACE, was rated the "single most effective drug in preventing nausea and vomiting induced by motion.
Fears of rough seas, turbulent flights, and bumpy drives are frequently cited by persons hesitant to travel. Low dose SCOPACE provides travel comfort while minimizing possible side effects.
The typical dose is 1-2 tablets taken an hour before travel. For prompt absorption and action, the dose should be taken on an empty stomach. Each dose comforts for up to 8 hours.
There are several important differences between SCOPACE tablets and the scopolamine patch. The patch provides a fixed dose. One fixed dose may not be appropriate for all. In contrast, you can easily titrate the SCOPACE dose to adjust for each person's weight and individual needs

Hi Sparkles. I saw a tv programme recently where they compared various travel sickness cures for effectiveness, from over the counter remdies to the wrist strap pressure point band. They found that ginger extract was the most effective of all. I'm also aware that a lot of pregnant ladies swear by ginger to counter the effects of morning sickness and know that ginger is often used as a general anti-nausea treatment
Driving holidays when I was younger where a nightmare, my Sister had terrible travel sickness. Every journey started out with my Mum making sure we had a ready supply of empty plastic bags! Anyway, my Mum bought these wrist straps from the chemist one year, they were velcro, you wraped them round about an inch above your wrist and there was a bead which you placed against the inside of your arm, suppose it works on pressure points. My Sister swears by them, she won't go on a journey without them now. I don't think they were expensive, and would be worth a try if you don't want to be taking strong medication. Hope you find something that works for you son, good luck!
Just bet me to it Bonzo2000.
Found this http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1010151 this is kinda what I was meaning.
If I read in a car I get terribly travel sick, when I was young my mum used to hand me a ginger biscuit and taught me to look into the distance as far as I could possibly look, through the clouds, and the travel sickness vanishes, but I appreciate if you feel sick from the moment you get in the car and are going on a long journey this will not help, will be a bit annoying and you might run out of ginger biscuits, but as a quick cure it works!
My son only has to travel about 25 miles , which is probably about 15 miles to long for him . He wants to travel as it is to play in a cup final , his first one . I think this ginger thing and some wrist bands should do the trick . I have asked the school if he can travel in the front of the minibus and that is ok with them , so all being well thanks to you guys and gals looks like he may be able to enjoy his final after all . Thanks all.
I always got bad travel sickness and its amazing what difference it makes if you look through the windscreen. It means you don't see everything whizzing past you out of your window, and therefore the pace seems much slower. This always helped me, although your back hurts after a while from leaning to the side slightly!
