Have any ABers ever broken their ankle? If so - how much time did you have off work?

I broke my ankle last Sunday and today I was signed off work for 6 weeks!

I will go mad (and my employers probably will as well!) if I have to sit around and do nothing for that long! I'm already bored

Thanks

You poor thing!! I broke my ankle badly a couple of years ago and was off work for 2 months. I know the feeling of thinking you have 6 weeks looming ahead of sitting around doing nothing! Best wishes for a quick recovery and I'm sure all the ABers will cheer you up when you need it!!
hi, sorry to hear about your accident, I dont know from personal experience but a colleage of mine broke her leg and was signed off for 3 months, and after 1 month our IT guy's set her up with a laptop at home so she could do some stuff from home and then she came back part time when she was confident on her crutches. i would talk to your docs and employer and see what they can suggest as well. Good luck and don't get sucked into the daytime tv hell!!!!

hiya i have broken every bone over my 28 yrs and yes it does take at least 6 weeks, there will always be a weakness there tho. regarding your work, it depends what job you do, if you are sitting behnd a desk all day then there shouldnt be a problem with you going to work but if you are on your feet all day then i would strongly advise against it and your employers will just have to deal with it!! accidents happen!!

i hope you recover soon tho, its a right pain in the ass and i know how you are feeling. nae luck with the daytime tv tho!!!! its awful!!!

Quick word of advice - if you do go back to work before the six weeks is up, you will need to get your doctor to do a new sick line with a return to work date on it. You can't go back to work while you are still signed off.

Hope it heals quickly for you, must be very frustrating. All the best.

Take the time off! A broken bone is not just the loss of function it causes - there is an emotional reaction and your body needs to heal. You may have trouble sleeping at times with intermittent pain. You also need to learn to look after yourself with the temporary disability. You may feel bored at home, but better that than going back and finding you can't cope, and have to go off again. Take good care of yourself and get well!
