Appendix Operation & Shortness Of Breathe
6 Answers
Im only 17 but I have always been fit and healthy and never had trouble with chest infections, coughs or anything similar but i had my appendix removed last August and ever since then i have always felt like i've had a lining of phlegm/mucas in the back of my throat and chest that i can never shift. Does anyone know what this may be and how i can cure it??
Also i have started weight lifting again recently and i have started to notice since then that i have a shortness of breathe, it almost feels as if my diaphragm/chest cannot push out enough. How can i stop this from happening? Is it just a case of strengthening my heart and respiritory system with aerobic exercise? Thanks

you may have a residual infection left over from the operation. Often when you have general and are in bed for a few days, catarrh can settle in your chest. If you have a low grade infection it would difficult to shift. The catarrh would also account for the shortness of breath i think.
You should go back to the GP for a check up esp as it has been happening for so long. It could also be that you have developed a mild asthma. Asthmatics have difficulty breathing out all the way and feel constrictionin their chest which is painful. Another early symptom of asthma is a persitant unexplanined cough, esp at night.
Either, way, I think you need to see a doctor soon an see if he can help you. It could also be that you are just run down and need to take things slowly for a nother little while. An appendicitis is a major thing and it can take up to a year to fully recover from such major surgery.
good luck.

oh that's ok, CHiswick, I saw the answer before mine and reported it, but didn't retort to it. I didn't want to give the person the satisfaction. I felt it was unhelpful and inappropriate (not unlike many of her other posts, but I'm trying not to judge).
But styles, I think given you find it difficult breathing out I would definately visity your GP just to rule out asthma. However mild it may be, it is important to have it diagnosed. Just to be safe, visit your gp.
wishing you well
