'Massive' Heart Attack

We hear people describing a persons death as, "From a 'massive' heart attack", but can people die from a 'mild' or 'moderate' heart attack?

Are all deaths from heart attacks 'massive' heart attacks and is the word 'massive' neccessary?

(I don't think I've worded my question very well, but I hope you can understand what I mean!!)

my nan had a mild heart attack and she's still with us - aged 93!

I'm no doctor, but i took it to mean that in a mild or moderate one, part of the tissue/muscle dies and so the heart can function with the help of drugs. I think when they say a massive one they mean that the whole heart stopped working - as in - the part that "died" was massive.

I think non medical people say it when they mean that the person died as a result of having a heart attack and presume it was a massive one.

i'm not explaining what I mean very well now, am I?

In answer to your other question, I would think your chances of survival are smaller, the bigger the coronary or the slower you get treatment.

My dear Grandad who I never knew died from what I would have thought was a 'massive' heartattack. Sat down to Sunday dinner, stood up and then collapsed. My Dad said he died in seconds. My friend's father recently went to hospital with chest pains. Test showed he'd had a heart attack but his was a mild one. I guess the heart was able to recover whereas my Grandad had some serious problems - he was only 48.
