Its my birthday on Saturday and my mates will probably get me something small, which is absolutely fine by me, but what I would really like is for them to get vouchers from either an art shop or Waterstones, so i can put them to good use towards expensive art books and paintbrushes that I need.
Problem is, how do i go about dropping hints without looking like i'm 'expecting' something from them, if ya dig? I won't actually be seeing any of them until my birthday, but I WILL be calling tonight ot confirm plans but I don't want to look cheeky,!!! XXX
you could maybe just say "incasse your stuck for idea's...", although that does kind of make it seem like your expecting something, but im sure they'll understand.
I would just say. With our friends we all put say a fiver in for each other's birthdays and we started off just getting surprises but most of us never really got what we would like so now we either ask each other or just get vouchers or give the money. Best thing to do is mention it to your closest friend and get her to mention it to the others. Hope you have a nice birthday!
How about casually dropping into the conversation something like:
"Jane at work was complaining the other day about receiving vouchers for Waterstones. I know a lot of people hate vouchers instead of a present, I must be the only person who would love that - think of the money I could save on all my art stuff."
Cheers, but I think i'll go with Joeygreen.... my mate can suggest it to the others... may have a problem though, as nat suggests, my big 30th is on Sat 29th!
Nevermind, I'm sure it will be fine, whatever happens. XXX
