In our area you don't find out before @ 12 weeks, whether it's abnormal or not. Don't worry too much in the meantime as they can be abnormal without being dangerous. Mine were, twice, and they reverted to normal. Changes in this part of the body are usually very slow.
Sorry, just seen the first response, my results always come by post. Even when they showed up abnormal they came by post, urging me to phone my doctor (which put the fear of God into me, I can tell you, but really, it's just so that the doctor can explain the results of the test). Don't worry too much!
Thanks Violet, I'm worried coz i'm having serious pain and bleeding during sex which has been going on for months and is so bad i can barely do it! and i need the results before i can go back to the doctors for further examination and its peeing me off waiting because its not getting any better and i know damned well that the results of these tests will not make a difference in the slightest to my predicament!
But the doctor should have given you a thorough examination and not just a smear. Any bleeding and/or pain needs to be investigated at once. That doesn't mean it's necessarily serious, and it may not be something that shows up on a smear anyhow. It may be something physical, like a fibroid or something. There may be some local women's health centres that you can go to, but I'd probably avoid trawling the websites as you can scare yourself unnecessarily. You need some reassurance that only seeing someone will give you. All the very best with it! X
I had a colposcopy at the same time but she said everything apart from the abnormal cells were normal, she said the cells shouldnt be whats causing my other problems though! which is why i know it wont make any difference but til the results come back i cant get any further! Think i need to see a gynaecologist now!
