flea allergy

Could anyone please tell me what a dog with a flea allergy would look like,we been away for a few days,we treated the dog before we went with the drops on the back of the neck thing cos we'd found them on her, treated the house etc, cant see any fleas on her but she is biting her fur out on her back end and has a lump below her bum looking quite sore and red,she is looking sore everywhere as well as balding,we took her to a vet near where we were staying in case it was a reaction to the drops or allergy to the bites and we were told it was probably because her immune system was getting used to the treatment???Not happy with it we are now cutting the hol short and driving back to norfolk today, would just like to know if theres anything we can do to help her till we get back to our vet, sorry its so long!!Thanks!

He was biting chunks of fur from his back, jut at the base of his tail which by the time we cleared him of the fleas, developed into really sore looking scabs :-(
I was told that his flea allergy was down to the fact that his particular fleas were cat fleas- hence the irritation. Maybe worth asking your vet if it could be the same problem? Hope you get it sorted, my dog was utterly miserable whilst he had them, I presume it's the same with yours.
PS
Why have I suddenly started itching? LOL

Hiya,
yep, my Little darling also suffers with a flea allergy, and it is indeed cat fleas they are allergic to. If you run your hand over her fur, particularly where her tail meets her back, you may see some tiny black flecks - the fleas poo. Nice huh? You probably won't be able to see the fleas though.
Daniel (my retriever) gets rad blotchy patches which he would gnaw at if we let him, and these patches can become infected if not treated. Best get your baby to your local vet.
By the way, what breed is she? And I would recommend using Frontline flea drops (from your vet only) and treating your house and dogs bed with a product called Staykill, which kills fleas before they have hatched in your carpets/dogs bed etc.

I have a scottie who suffers from this and he always seems to get some kind of reaction when first treated ( i use frontline spray) i give him piriten tablets and rub the infected area with tea tree which cools down the infected area if you dont have any use calamine lotion it dosent look attractive but will cool your girl down and give her some piece hope this helps.
ps try the piriton as this is simlar to what the vet will give you and much cheaper (my vet told me that) i give my scottie 1 then half the next day the side effect is it sometimrs makes him sleepy but then hes not sctratching
