Is it true that you can only get gold dental crowns on NHS and have to pay private treatment fee to have porcelain ones?

Thanks. S.

Yes I think it is true because you do not 'need' porcelain crowns they are cosmetic, any crown I have ever had has cost several hundred pounds. If they are at the back I suppose gold ones are ok but most people would not like them where they are visible.
Crowns are provided under the NHS if there is a clinical need. However, tooth-coloured crowns are not available on back biting teeth. If you would like to have a crown for cosmetic reasons and you do not have a clinical need, a dentist will be able to carry out the procedure privately.

On the NHS, tooth-coloured crowns are available on teeth near the front of the mouth (from the first pre-molar tooth forwards). Many people want to have tooth-coloured or gold crowns for teeth that are further back, but these are only available privately.
I have a gold crown at the back it is great always nice and clean and shiny
