Hip Replacement
8 Answers
I had a total hip replacement 7 weeks ago and all was going well until a week ago and now my whole side has become sore and tender to touch, there is no sign of infection, has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be. I am in my fifties so quite fit and healthy normally.

I am going in to have both knees replaced soon and have been told that infection is the biggest danger in joint replacement. You may well have an infection deep in the tissue around the joint that is causing the tenderness. This isn't always visible from the outside. Please do not wait till it gets worse, but see your doc asap. Call NHS direct today though and get advice. Hope you feel better very soon.
perose,I had my total hip replacement 6 weeks ago and went to hospital for my 6 week check up last thursday.Touch wood my scar has healed up beautifully but another patient was complaining of the scar being hot and tender and a doctor was going to be called as it was taken very seriously.Go to A&E today if possible as you might need antibiotics and should not delay even for 1 day.Good luck you will soon be healing again.
