Shaving in operation

My fiance recently had an operation on his ear. During the op some of his hair was shaved around his ear, and also a rectangular patch on the front of his left thigh. I can understand shaving around the ear, but cannot understand why his thigh was shaved. Does anyone know why?

Probably had to shave there to attach electrodes to monitor his heart during the op.

hospitals get paid by the 'number of shaves per patient'... the more hair they remove the more money they receive... which can be spent on more important things... like sheets with pre-folded corners, coloured bulldog clips for their clipboards and curly thermometers...

we could start donating hair like we do blood, so there would be hair banks , and people with unusual hair colour could be on standby for emergencies,
