i have been on the pill for around seven years and being on it for this long worries me that it might effect my chances of conceiving. i'm probably going to be trying for children in two or three years and it worries me that i wont be able to as im extremely maternal. my mum has had seven children (yes quite a lot) but with each has had trouble conceiving and has experienced several miscarriages. any advice?xxx

I am the same, and recently asked my doctor about going on a break from the pill. I am 26. He suggested that I take a break from the pill for a few months, to make sure my periods restart ok, then can go back. This is a good indicator that they won't take too long in the future. Alternatively, try coming off the pill about a year before you want to try for a baby, as then this gives your body enough time to get back to normal. Good luck.

Fortunately it shouldn't affect your fertility at all if you are on either the combined or progesterone only pill
