Metformin
5 Answers
I have been prescribed this medication (again) due to problems with my blood sugar levels, too many hypoglycaemic attacks - horrible things.
This time it seems to be irritating my stomach and eating it with a meal or after a meal seems to make little difference.
If anyone has had this problem can they tell me if it will settle. I have only been on it this time for ten days.
I can't remember having this problem last time that I took it.

Other verisons of metformin are available which you may be better suited to.
I'm assuming that you have been referred to a Diabetologist, who is determining the right medication and dosage for you. If not, ask your GP to be referred. Sometimes GP's don't really know how to find the best and most suitable medication.

GeordiePengy... It isn't a simple tale to tell. I suffer from polycystic ovaries and this causes excess insulin but the insulin receptors are not picking it up.
It means that I am prone to hypos and am actually pre-diabetic. The Metformin was prescribed by a gynaecologist. I am 18 stone and although I have already lost 4 stone I need to lose more.
The hypos are horrible and upset me.
I am going to analyse my diet and try and improve it.
Thanks all.
