The waist twists with the bar over your shoulders is for the obliques (External muscles down the side of the torso)

Training the serratus can be done via chins, Narrow Grip Pull Downs (Effectively Pull ups with weights) and dumbell /barbell pull overs.

thanks. Thenwhat exercises can you do for your intercoastals? Would waist twists with a stick hit those too?
The intercostals are used for movement of the ribs such as breathing. To hit these muscles you need to twist coupled with a crunch movement so do the following:-

- Twisted Knee raises (Knees to elbows)
- Side Leg Raises (Dont lying down)
- Forward Leg Kicks (Done lying down)
- Bent Side Leg raises

The angle of twists with the bar does not work the inters. It may stretch the muscles but not work them hard enough
