How does one get Labyrinthitis if it isn't contagious? I had mono 2 months before could that be related?

I don't know where you read that Labyrinthitis is not contagious because I can assure you it is.Several years ago I picked it up when I was in hospital and within a week my husband had it and he was so ill he ended up in hospital, sounds crazy I know.Then a few more people on the ward got it and I dare say they infected loads more!!
