my daughter is 5 yrs and her left ear is completely bunged up with wax. She has had 2 hearing tests and they both say she has mild problems with hearing in that ear. I have tried Earex and olive oil for ages but none seem to help clear the problem. The Dr say's just leave it as it will eventually clear and that she is too young to have them siringed.
It has been about 2 years now and i would really like any suggestions to help her.

I'd carry on with olive oil 3-4 times a day and eventually if its just wax it will soften and come out. Dont use chemicals if you can help it.
Having them syringed will clear them but the wax comes back quicker than if you use the oil regularly - and yes she is too young to have them done.

thank you, i will keep on with the olive oil but more regularly
you could ask for her to be refered to a ENT specialist, if her ears are always blocked and impairs her hearing, then it may effect her schooling, speech or behaviour. Ive learnt to trust my instincts where my kids are concerened, so if you feel its a problem, then ask for a refereal.
Why not try a product called Audiclean it's an ear cleansing spray made of sterile natural sea water and has no chemicals and can be bought at Boots.Used regularly it disperses earwax plugs and then helps prevent the formation of wax.It is safe for children from 6 months.

i tried audiclean, that was pretty useless, think its meant as a general clean more that blockage. She has also been refered, she is not hearing certain tones. They said that as her speech is ok and it is not effecting her in anyway (apart from shouting all the time) i should just be patient. Its really frustrating for us both but i don't want to be pulling her about or causing more harm that good. Olive oil seems like the safest bet. Thanks for all your suggestions.
it might cause probs at school. my daughter still shouts and she had her grommets in a year ago. a bit diff as she had glue ear, but her speach wasnt effected, thankfully they have bupa so we got refered really quickly. good luck though.x
