Having had the same thing for many years, I, like most, have learned to live with it. I have found, though, that the severity of mine is food related. I avoid much salt and the worst is vinegar, of all things. Regardless, some relief is also gained by ear protection from loud or even sem-loud noises. I use ear plugs a lot when working in the blacksmith shop or running power equipment, for example. I grew up here in the western U.S., like most boys, hunting from an early age and also spent many years, as a commercial pilot, sitting for hours a few feet away from 2500 horsepower engines (before the relief of aft mounted turbojet engines... on the airplane that is)... no one ever mentioned hearing protection... My Doctor says the worst possible thing for hearing loss and/or tinnitus are percussive sounds, escpecially gunfire or other explosive sounds experienced when young.
I suspect we're raising an entire generation of young people that will experience the disorder if the loudness and heavy base of their music is an indicator...
