I have taken anti-depressants daily since being hospitlised with a complete breakdown eighteen years ago.
My current medication is citalopram, and they suit me very well - keep me nicely balanced.
As Trinny has suggested, all anti-depressants take a good three weeks to settle into your system, and any immedaite side-effects - nausea being very common, should subside by then. If any side-effects persist, see your GP - not every prescripotion suits every condition, and you may have to experiment a little to find the ones that work for you.
I don;t know about alopeacia - I haven't got that much hair to loose to notice any difference!

SEXY67. Citalopram is an SSRI as you may know. Statistics show that out of all ssri's Citalopram causes the least side effects. The next is Sertaline/Lustral. Efexor which is an SNRI. Prozac and Seroxat/Paroxetine. If you start to experience small "Jerk Like" movements anywhere in your body buy Magnesium Tablets 300mg and take 2 daily for 2 weeks then cut it to 1 daily. All ssri's deplete the system of magnesium.

I had post natal depression and found that the only anti-depressant that worked for me was seroxat - it was fantastic but I didn't want to be on it as it had had such bad publicity. I tried citalopram amongst others but it just made me feel 'yuck!' The worst thing about any anti depressant (for me anyway) is that in the love department, I couldn't reach any great heights, if you know what I mean and I could never feel really happy or really sad, I just existed on a monotonous mid level!
Fortunately, it's been a couple of years since I've had them and would only use them as a very last resort.

Hi I have been on citalopram since December just gone I have found they have really helped me. They take just under a week to ge into your system. The first few days make you feel a bit out of storts as in sleepyness and a feeling sickness but this soon passes. I have reduced my doseage from one every day to one everyother now. But please see your doctor for your own personel dose as side effects can occur if not taken properly. Luckly I have had no side effects to mention.
I'm currently taking citalopram - i've had no problems and they've helped my moods balance quite nicely.
Took about 3 weeks to notice any change in my mood - please be aware - the changes are subtle. Dont expect to wake up one morning singing zipady doo dah!
I found that some thing would happen and I'd think 'god I handled that well' and noticed that I was getting dressed earlier in the mornings - just little things that make a big difference
Only side effects I had were sweating and dry mouth for 1st few weeks but these soon wore off
