Let your feelings guide you. If you wanna stand up, stand up, if you wanna kneel, kneel. Be warned though, my mum is a midwife and he reckons there are some lazy ones who will want you to just stay on the bed.

With my last child, I didnt want to kneel at all and my midwife was instant that I should. I of course ignored her and lay on my side as this felt most comfortable and she very sarcily tld me I would get nowhere like that, 3 cms to fully dilated in 5 hours..... I Was like hahahaha!!

You wil be smitten when you see your baby.

Good luck x
I agree, but I would make sure you've got someone holding onto you!
A lot of midwives are quite amiable when it comes to you choosing your birth position. You will probably find that you get into the position you feel most comfortable with.

During my first labour 17 years ago when I went into second stage I kept rolling onto my side to push. The midwife kept rolling me back..and the baby got stuck. When I spoke to several midwives later on they told me that I would have been better off laying on my side!

The second time I was sitting up, the third & fourth I was kneeling on all fours. The kneeling position is supposed to be the most effective ~ but do whatever is comfortable for you :o)
Can you give birth standing up?! What if the baby falls out on his head?! Am I being blonde?????

P.S Preggie_Sam are you stylinsam????
There should be a midwife there to guide baby out, girly..or at least catch ;o)
girly, its fine, baby has its own bungee cord :)
You might not have time!! (My neigbour had her baby the other day, in about an hour!!... and it was her first!)
On the kitchen floor, in her new house of all places....

Hi

My LO is a month old today, I gave birth on all fours. I don't know that my legs would have supported me if I stood for the whole time. I changed position regularly while I was having contractions but then settled on all fours for pushing.

I didn't feel particularly bonded with my LO while he was still a bump. After the birth I had to go to theatre so was away from him for nearly 3 hours which didn't help. It took a couple of days for it to sink in that I had a baby and then a couple of weeks for us to get to know each other but now I'm completely in love with him. Some women innately know their babies and instantly bond with them but othes, like me, take a little longer. Don't stress about it.

Good luck x

funny enough I keep dreaming that I'm giving birth standing up so I might give it a try. The baby could always be the youngest person to bungee jump haha

Lol im not sure HOW to give birth!! No way is a nice way lol
Hi preggie Sam
I am 19 weeks pregnant now so nearly half way, I guess standing up would make sense, but not sure it would be comfy!
I know a couple of woman who ended up giving birth on all fours and found it easier (maybe it's something to do with the birth canal).
Anyway, no doubt at the 'dreaded' time our maternal instincts will kick in and we'll just do what we feel is best for us - but like you say I don't think any way/time is a good time - I just want to get it out as quickly and neatly as possible!!
I know what you mean though about not believing you are actually going to have a baby, it's very surreal I guess because it's always been happening to someone else, and now it's me. It's very odd and sometimes I have to remind myself that I actually have a human being growing inside me. I thought I was the only one who thought too deeply about these things!
Good luck with everyone Sam and keep me informed of your progress.
xx
