7 weeks or 5 1/2 weeks?
A friend of mine is 7/8 weeks pregnant but is suffering bleeding. It started as spotting but now become more like a period. She went for a scan yesterday but they couldnt really see anything and actually told her she is only 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. She does not live close to her boyfriend and so knows the exact weekend she conceived and the doctor did her dating from her last period, all which makes her 7 weeks and a bit.
Does this sadly mean she has lost the baby already, losing it at 5 1/2 weeks?
She has been told to go back for another scan in two weeks and to call if she gets any pain or the bleeding gets heavier.

I lost one last month, had a bleed then scan and they said there was nothing there and thats that. I believe the confusion in dates is some people go from day of last period and class those two weeks as part of it ,but like u say thats b4 u were actually pregnant.
Thanks for your answers.
LittleMiss, sorry to hear that. I cant understand how the confusion can happen when, like katie has said, they all go by the first day of the last period. I wondered if they had said 5 1/2 weeks because it was developing at a slower than normal rate so is therefore small. My friend said they did see the sack though.
Katie, sorry to hear about what happened to you too. So far she has not had any pain and Im keeping my fingers crossed for her that it stays that way!

It can takle a few days after sex for fertilisation and then implantation to occur so that may explain a slight difference in days even though she knows when she had sex, Im not sure how long though
I hope alls well for her. Many women bleed early on and some bleed all the way through with no harm to baby. If she gets any pain with the bleeding then she should call the hospital for further advice.

some do take it from day 14 (expected date of conception) found it funny when going for tests my nurse wanted blood from day 21, i said wots the point when u ovulate on day 14, she disagreed, said 14 days from date of end of period based on a period of 7 days. so i thought i had been doing it all wrong lol but everywhere u look up says day 14 fpr ovulation. who knows? any ways dont feel sorry for me. I think it was for the best, as he is turning into such a prick. I've had my children, was only trying for him and the minute i found out he wanted to go out drinking , leading the single life. Sad as it sounds but lucky escape i believe.
