The Pill questions
3 Answers
I have been taking the Yasmin Pill for over a year now so I guess I should know these things but I have just always wondered the following: When you are on the Pill, is it actually safe to take it continuously for two/three months? Also, I have heard that the periods you have whilst on the Pill are artificial- does this mean you could still be pregnant even if you have a period? Thanks x

As for an artificial period, it is artificial because the pill stops you from producing fertile eggs. But some pills stops the egg from being implanted (I think this info is on the 'how it works' part of your packet.
If you don't want periods, the mini pill I was on called cerazettee stoped my periods all together!

Normally it's fine to take two packs of pills without a break, but I don't know about 3 - it's worth checking with your doctor.
And yes, 'periods' that you have on the pill are 'false' - the pill works in different ways - it stops eggs being released, makes your uterus less receptive to fertilised eggs (for those that get through) and thins the mucus that plugs your cervix. So, in answer to your question, you could still have a period if pregnant, although the chances you're pregnant (if taking the pill correctly, i.e. no upset stomachs etc) are low. Best do a test if not sure.

Yes it is fine, I checked this with my Dr last time I was there. Yasmine is the same as the one I take, 21 days on, 7 off but you don't have to take the 7 days off and in fact a lot of Drs often recommend that you dont take the 7 days off for some medical conditions (heavy periods etc). They recommend that you take 3 or 4 packs back to back.
Hope this helps, check with your Dr next time you are in if you need more confirmation
